For over seventy years, Crestan has applied the fundamental principles of the art of furniture-making: the techniques is tradition where knowledge of the wood, the real solid wood of walnut, and great dexterity create original pieces of high quality furniture which due to their characteristics can furnish many different houses, including modern ones. The furniture we produce is linked to different periods in the history of furniture and is the result of artisan creativity which can be said to be almost an art.
The Luigi XIV style can be said to represent the richest and most luxurious epoch of our history when everything had to fascinate and attract attention including architecture, sculptures, painting and also furniture. The Luigi XIV style furniture had to create an atmosphere, impress and excite one’s imagination. Therefore, after gaining great skill in the craft of decorating using engraving and inlays, pieces of furniture were made which are able to create authentic settings for a real representation of life at court. The Luigi XIV collection proposed high quality pieces thanks to the use of carefully picked raw materials and the skill with which each individual part of the furniture is made. The drowers, with dovetail joints, have locks and are lined with Varese paper. The furniture is made using 2 mm sheets of hand-sanded walnut veneer with elegant threading and inlays in tulip, zebrano, rose wood and maple. The drawer fronts and doors have insert of solid 8 mm walnut with a special herringbone effect. The backs in fir are 1,5 mm thick. The finishing consist of thirteen different stages, all performed by hand, uning natural water dyes, shellac and bees wax.
